This is one of my very first and worst works. First of all, for some reason I titled the book The Old Man with the Sea. I am not sure if it was on purpose or I just did not even know the title of the book. This was the very first time we learned to blend quotes and I did not understand it what so ever and I just thought to myself I bet we won't do this ever again. Clealry I jinx myself but through all the times we have used it, I'm glad I made that fist step.
My Work
In the Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Santiagos relationship with the boy. Manolin is very loyal to Santiago and looks up to him in fishing and in life because he is so wise and also will soon aspire to be him.
Later after he hooks the marlin “He wish[es he] had the boy. To help [him] and to see this.” Santiago might have said this because he is weaker and older, and he needs the boy to help him with some of thing he can’t do as well. When he says he wants to boy to see this, he wants the boy to be proud of him and does not want to disappoint him.
This might foreshadow how Santiago depends on the boy and he is dying needing someone to replace him like the boy. The boy will soon follow in his same path and is going to become like him.
This shows that santiago's personality is wanting to show the boy what he has done and how he has succeeded. Also how he will not give up but his body is giving up so he is depending on the boy. It shows he is determined, has endurance and courage and he won’t give up.
