This project was probably the MOST influential and educational assignments. After learning about the extraordinary heroics acts the city has done and then how they don't even accept recognition. As a result of this I find my self always relating back to it. If i'm thinking if something is the right or wrong thing to do, reading a book, watching a show, and just everyday life actions I always think to what would Le Chambon-sur-Lignon do or how something is like them. When I first choose to do the City I had no clue how amazing it was, I just thought they saved some Jewish refuge. This project was by far my favorite and most educating.
My Work
Saving the Jews one by one The city of Le Chambon-Sur-Ligon saved over 5000 Jews and refuges They sanctioned them in house, bunkers, schools, and farms Providing safety and shelter when everyone else refused
Andre Trocme leading the city and the people Born 1901, A pacifist pastor Refusing to give into Nazi rule, standing strong Having the skills of leadership and integrity His reputation and teachings were followed Bringing the people together Treating everyone as equals Saving the Jews
Nazis and Vichy authority wildly obsessing over catching the city and its refuges Spending weeks at a time hunting them Bringing busses to take the innocent to concentration camps Harassing the city but leaving with nothing once again
Camping out in the city the city, there were not only Jews Any other outcast, not socially acceptable; anyone out of the norm Were taken in and given shelter The city once again showed integration, wholeness, and inclusion Setting an example for all
Unity is what the city relied on Without the city having each other’s back they would have been brought down 5000 futures would be lost 5000 generations be lost 5000 families would be morning in loss Daniel Tromce, head of an elementary school with 18 innocent Jewish kids in it Captured by the Vichy authorities Sent to a death camp with 18 other kids None of them surviving Daniel Tromce shows and represents the city After being tortured and tortured And still, never giving up where other refuges were hidden
Any of the surviving citizens of the city Refuse to be recognized and known as heroes They consider what they did an act of what any human should have done Humbly accepting the fact that what they did was just humanity and manners
Risk were high when taking these cost Some were capturedsent to concentration camps, killed, gunned down, murdered in cold blood But that didn't stop the people from doing what is right The leaders of the city were even arrested but they still saved lives Knowing the risk they were taking
You have principles in your life Things you know you just have to do What is kind and nice You can learn so much from one simple city How to act, how to live, what to do Even after everything they did They don’t accept and rewards recognitions, dedications And that’s how it should be not accepting anything in return
